Season 1

The first season follows junior Lucas Scott as he joins his High School basketball team and forges a relationship with his brother Nathan Scott, while also coming to terms with who he is and who his father is. The season also explores the love lives of the boys as they develop relationships with characters like Brooke Davis, Haley James and Peyton Sawyer, while the parents of these teens must also face the past in order to move on.

Season 2

Season 2 chronicles the remainder of junior year at Tree Hill High. Lucas and Nathan begin to bond as brothers. Deb develops a drug addiction. Both Karen and Keith find new loves, but Keith doesn't find happiness when he finds out Dan hired her to break his heart. Haley leaves town to go on tour, breaking Nathan's heart. Brooke goes on a journey of self discovery while Peyton falls in love and gets involved with drugs when he has to leave.

Season 3

Haley returns to Tree Hill and tries to save her marriage with Nathan. Peyton gets to know her birth mother. Lucas and Brooke begin a relationship. Keith and Karen get engaged. Nathan patches things up with Lucas, while Mouth begins a complicated relationship with newcomer Rachel, who also spreads a lot of drama through the core characters.

Season 4

Nathan and Haley find out they're going to have a baby. Lucas starts writing a novel while also questioning what really happened on the day of the school shooting. Nathan gets involved with some shady characters after him and Haley start having money problems. Peyton finds out she has a brother, but he may not be who he says he is. Brooke becomes friends with Rachel and starts a relationship with newcomer Chase. Dan tries to get close to Karen and help her with Keith's baby.

Season 5

Four years after high school; Karen is travelling the world with her daughter, Lily and boyfriend, Andy. Lucas has a new girlfriend, Lindsey, and a best-selling book. Brooke's fashion line has taken off, but she still feels like her life is missing something. Haley has become a teacher at Tree Hill high. Nathan is in a wheelchair after a bar accident, and has to deal with recuperating and a future that possibly has no basketball in it. Peyton's career didn't take off in L.A., and she returns to Tree Hill still mourning the end of her relationship with Lucas. Dan is released from jail and is hoping for forgiveness. Deb becomes Jamie's nanny after the previous one kidnapped him, tried to steal Nathan, and tried to kill Haley. Mouth begins a new relationship with Brooke's assistant Millicent and tries to become successful in the sports reporting world.

Season 6

Lucas and Peyton are not only engaged but are having a baby too. Nathan tries to make a comeback in basketball, Haley has to make a decision involving her career, Brooke takes in a young girl named Sam and deals with being attacked in her own store, and Dan spends time with Jamie as he waits on a heart transplant. Meanwhile, a movie producer named Julian Baker comes to Tree Hill and wants to make An Unkindness of Ravens into a movie.

Season 7

A year has passed since Lucas and Peyton left Tree Hill to go traveling. A scandal threatens Nathan's career in the NBA; Haley goes back on the road, but suffers a family tragedy that causes her to battle a period of depression. Rachel and Dan return to Tree Hill and Brooke hires a new model (Alex) for "Clothes Over Bros" that in turn threatens her relationship with Julian, and Mouth and Millicent's (who become a model, but suffers serious self-image problems). Newcomers Clay and Quinn settle in Tree Hill and soon fall for one another, only to have their own dramas from psycho Katie. While old romances, Mia and Chase seem to struggle, new ones form, Miranda and Grubbs, give in and begin a relationship, while Victoria and Alexander decide to take their professional relationship to the next level.

Season 8

Brooke and Julian are engaged but she has to deal with financial problems at Clothes Over Bro's, thanks to Victoria. Nathan makes a huge decision regarding his career. Haley finds out she is pregnant again, this time with a girl. Clay and Quinn's lives hang in the balance when they are left for dead after Katie shoots them both. A new love triangle starts between Chase, Alex, and Mia. Mouth tries to get close to Millicent once more. Meanwhile, Dan talks Quinn out of a terrible mistake when she visits him at his Diner on the outskirts of Tree Hill.

Season 9

New parents Brooke and Julian adjust to twin babies and two careers. Haley embarks on a crash course in crisis management when Nathan's work trip to Europe takes a dark and devastating turn. Quinn and Clay, Millie and Mouth, Alex and Chase strap themselves into love's roller coaster. Patriarchs resurface, long-unseen friends rally forces, and a foe is vanquished. Despair looms on the horizon, yet redemption and renewal are close at hand in the powerful, heartfelt conclusion of One Tree Hill.
